Built in the valley of the River Chew and at the edge of the Peak District National Park, this village is an ideal starting point for moorland walks. The Peak District became Britain's first National Park in 1951.

The Oldham Way is one of many walks and trails around the Oldham and Saddleworth area and starts and finishes at Dove Stone reservoir. The spectacular area of Dove Stone is a popular spot for visitors and is easily accessible from the village of Greenfield. The war memorial on 'Pots and Pans' provides magnificent views and to the east is a vast area of open-access moorland where hikers can wander at will up to heights of about 600 metres.
