Diggle lies at the southern end of the Standedge canal and rail tunnels. The tunnels go through the Pennines to Yorkshire. The canal tunnel, which is over three miles in length, was re-opened in 2001 as part of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal restoration project and is the longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel in the country. Harrop Green and Diglee are both splendid examples of pre-Industrial Revolution weaving settlements. The nearby Diggle Mill contained the largest waterwheel in the United Kingdom until it was removed in 1924; the wheel had a diameter of 64ft. 8ins.

A good base for walks along the canal and onto the moors Diggle is also part of the Oldham Way Circular Walk.
